Kids Who Bird

This exciting program is designed for kids who are interested and excited about birds. If you're a kid between the ages of 9 and 16 who likes birds and wants to know more about them, this club is for you. We'll learn about the birds you can find right here in Baton Rouge, as well as other places in Louisiana. We'll learn about the migratory birds that we'll see only as they pass through our state -- but lots of birds do that, and it means we can see some really great birds.

Kid Birder

Monthly meetings will be held in conjunction with LA Bird Observatory banding events whenever possible. This will allow the kids to be up close and personal with birds and also with scientists and students who are monitoring them. These meetings will probably be held early on Sunday mornings. Monthly emails will be sent out to interested parties with specifics.

Who can join

Kids between ages 9 and 16 who are interested in birds. To join, please write a short note and/or include a drawing indicating why you want to join the club. Have your parents send this note and/or drawing to Education@braudubon.org. I will notify you that I've received your letter and will send out a welcome packet. Binoculars are available for those who want to borrow them, so you'll be able to get a good look at the birds. Field guides that contain bird identification information are also available, so you'll be able to tell what you're looking at! In addition to learning to identify birds by sight, we'll spend a lot of time listening to the birds and learning to identify them by the sounds they make. Each member will keep a "life list" of all the birds they identify (by sight or sound!) when we go out on our field trips around Baton Rouge and other places in Louisiana.

The club is geared towards children ages 9 to 16 and their parents (not appropriate for younger children as it is difficult for them to use binoculars and field guides). Club members will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the various meeting sites. bird banding
